EASY is not a phrase book for the service industry. Instead, EASY shows real-life examples of customer interaction, working as a team with one's peers, job improvement strategies, communication and interviewing skills and much, much more. A wide variety of service jobs are covered to build those specific vocabulary and phrase sets needed in today's workplace in order to provide competitive and consistent service and a safe working environment.
Teresa's Story
Teresa Lopez has a new job as Human Resources (HR) Manager at the local Baker Resort Hotel. As she goes through her orientation our students go with her. Thus they learn what’s it’s like to join a new company and go through the first day on the job. As she tours the many departments in the hotel, we learn lots of vocabulary for different entry level jobs, the job functions and the skills and educational level needed.
We also begin to understand the reasons and concepts behind delivering quality and consistent service, teamwork, on the job safety and other important aspects of workplace culture.
As the series unfolds, over 15 episodes, we join the staff in the kitchen and focus on Luis Mireles, a new prep cook. Luis has ambitions and skills to match. In a hotel there are many jobs and Luis has his eyes on advancing his career. We follow him as he learns his jobs, the vocabulary he has to learn and the reasons why things are often done the way they are.
Luis' Story
Luis, among others, goes through a job application process and then the interviews for his next job. His careful preparation and professional thought out presentation wins him a job in the “Front of the House” as a busser, as part of his plan to become a waiter. In each job we learn with him – the language skills and extensive vocabulary demanded of these jobs in the service industries.
Meanwhile, other staff members in housekeeping, retail, custodial, gardening, banquet setup and other service areas in the hotel share with us and teach us the language and skills they need to succeed.
